Goodreads Monday (7/2/2018)

Goodreads Monday is a meme hosted by Lauren @Page Turner,  and the idea is to post a book that’s on your TBR pile and show it off. This is a great way to show off books I have not yet managed to read!

This week I have chosen:

myplanejane

Title:  My Plain Jane (The Lady Janies #2)

Author: Cynthia Hand (Goodreads Author), Jodi Meadows (Goodreads Author),Brodi Ashton (Goodreads Author)

Published: June 26th 2018 by HarperTeen

Goodreads Summary:

You may think you know the story. After a miserable childhood, penniless orphan Jane Eyre embarks on a new life as a governess at Thornfield Hall. There, she meets one dark, brooding Mr. Rochester. Despite their significant age gap (!) and his uneven temper (!!), they fall in love—and, Reader, she marries him. (!!!)

Or does she?

Prepare for an adventure of Gothic proportions, in which all is not as it seems, a certain gentleman is hiding more than skeletons in his closets, and one orphan Jane Eyre, aspiring author Charlotte Brontë, and supernatural investigator Alexander Blackwood are about to be drawn together on the most epic ghost hunt this side of Wuthering Heights.

I really loved the first book, and can’t wait to get my hands on this book now that it is out. It has been on my TBR shelf ever since I finished the first one and found out a sequel was coming out the following year. I’ve read the first few chapters thanks to Epic Reads First5, and now this book is definitely going on my next Amazon order!

What is on your TBR shelf this week?

This week I have chosen:

windwitch

Title:  Windwitch (The Witchlands #2)

Author: Susan Dennard (Goodreads Author)

Published: January 10th 2017 by Tor Teen

Goodreads Summary:

Sometimes our enemies are also our only allies…

After an explosion destroys his ship, the world believes Prince Merik, Windwitch, is dead. Scarred yet alive, Merik is determined to prove his sister’s treachery. Upon reaching the royal capital, crowded with refugees, he haunts the streets, fighting for the weak—which leads to whispers of a disfigured demigod, the Fury, who brings justice to the oppressed.

When the Bloodwitch Aeduan discovers a bounty on Iseult, he makes sure to be the first to find her—yet in a surprise twist, Iseult offers him a deal. She will return money stolen from him, if he locates Safi. Now they must work together to cross the Witchlands, while constantly wondering, who will betray whom first?

After a surprise attack and shipwreck, Safi and the Empress of Marstok barely escape with their lives. Alone in a land of pirates, every moment balances on a knife’s edge—especially when the pirates’ next move could unleash war upon the Witchlands.

I really loved the first one, and unfortunately this one has been sitting on my shelf ever since I got it last year! I also got the prequel earlier this year, and guess where that one is as well. There is supposedly 3 more books in this series before it is finished, and I may just wait until they are all out and binge read them all.

How do you like to read series? Wait for them to all be released or read them one at a time as they are released?

Hey everyone it’s been awhile!! I celebrated my very first Mother’s Day yesterday, and the highlight of my day was dedicating my baby at church in the morning and then picking out paint for her room. Man how my life has changed in such a short amount of time! How did you celebrate Mother’s Day yesterday?

Over the weekend, my hubbie got me Obsidio as part of my MD present and I couldn’t have been happier! (Okay, so I might have picked it up and put it in the cart for him, but hey he still got it for me! That’s what counts, right?!) I still need to finish book 2, and I am only a quarter of the way through!! Now that I have this book, I imagine I will finish quickly so that I can start this one!

Title:  The Sun is Also a Star

Author: Nicola Yoon (Goodreads Author)

Published: November 1st 2016 by Delacorte Press

Goodreads Summary:

Natasha: I’m a girl who believes in science and facts. Not fate. Not destiny. Or dreams that will never come true. I’m definitely not the kind of girl who meets a cute boy on a crowded New York City street and falls in love with him. Not when my family is twelve hours away from being deported to Jamaica. Falling in love with him won’t be my story.

Daniel: I’ve always been the good son, the good student, living up to my parents’ high expectations. Never the poet. Or the dreamer. But when I see her, I forget about all that. Something about Natasha makes me think that fate has something much more extraordinary in store—for both of us.

The Universe: Every moment in our lives has brought us to this single moment. A million futures lie before us. Which one will come true?

This book has been on my TBR shelf since November 2016!! I recently watched Everything Everything and it almost makes me want to not read the book, but I know that books are 10 times better than the movies 9 out of 10 times. I’m hoping that I will like The Sun is Also a Star more than Everything Everything, but I’ve only really heard mix reviews about this author in general. You either love her or dislike her. Which category are you?

This week I have chosen:

ourdarkduet

Title:  Our Dark Duet (Monsters of Verity #2)

Author: Victoria Schwab (Goodreads Author)

Published: June 13th 2017 by Greenwillow Books

Goodreads Summary:

THE WORLD IS BREAKING. AND SO ARE THEY.

KATE HARKER isn’t afraid of monsters. She hunts them. And she’s good at it.

AUGUST FLYNN once yearned to be human. He has a part to play. And he will play it, no matter the cost.

THE WAR HAS BEGUN.

THE MONSTERS ARE WINNING.

Kate will have to return to Verity. August will have to let her back in. And a new monster is waiting—one that feeds on chaos and brings out its victims’ inner demons.

Which will be harder to conquer: the monsters they face, or the monsters within?

Happy day after Easter! I hope yours was spent having fun with family whether you celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ or not! We went to church and saw so many cute babies (so I didn’t have to worry if mine started talking during the service, I could just blame another one lol). We then gave baby S her very first Easter basket full of goodies, and she enjoyed playing with the plastic eggs filled with nothing more than her new toys. Oh well, what can you do. Our night ended with the hubs grilling, so overall we had a pretty good day.

This week I chose Our Dark Duet because it has been sitting on my shelf since last summer! I need to finish this duology ASAP, even if that is so that I can only clear off some space on my ever growing TBR shelf.

What did you do yesterday? What is on your TBR shelf this week?

Here’s a pic of one of my pups celebrating Easter =)

Waiting on Wednesday (3/28/2018)

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by  Jill from Breaking The Spine that shows the upcoming books that many of us are anticipating! This week, I’m waiting for…

 aceofshades

Title:  Ace of Shades (The Shadow Game #1)

Author: Amanda Foody (Goodreads Author)

Expected Publication: April 10th 2018

Publisher: Harlequin Teen

Goodreads Summary:

Welcome to the City of Sin, where casino families reign, gangs infest the streets…
and secrets hide in every shadow.

Enne Salta was raised as a proper young lady, and no lady would willingly visit New Reynes, the so-called City of Sin. But when her mother goes missing, Enne must leave her finishing school—and her reputation—behind to follow her mother’s trail to the city where no one survives uncorrupted.

Frightened and alone, her only lead is a name: Levi Glaisyer. Unfortunately, Levi is not the gentleman she expected—he’s a street lord and a con man. Levi is also only one payment away from cleaning up a rapidly unraveling investment scam, so he doesn’t have time to investigate a woman leading a dangerous double life. Enne’s offer of compensation, however, could be the solution to all his problems.

Their search for clues leads them through glamorous casinos, illicit cabarets and into the clutches of a ruthless mafia donna. As Enne unearths an impossible secret about her past, Levi’s enemies catch up to them, ensnaring him in a vicious execution game where the players always lose. To save him, Enne will need to surrender herself to the city…

And she’ll need to play.

I love going on Goodreads and looking for new books and new to me authors! I probably would have never heard of this book if I didn’t have to scroll the new release section. This book sounds really interesting and kind of gives me A Heart of Dread vibe, but without the fantasy element.

What are you waiting for this week? How do you find out about new releases if you don’t use Goodreads?

This week I have chosen:

A Gathering of Shadows Final

Title:  A Gathering of Shadows (Shades of Magic #2)

Author: V.E. Schwab

Published: February 23rd 2016 by Tor Teen

Goodreads Summary:

It has been four months since a mysterious obsidian stone fell into Kell’s possession. Four months since his path crossed with Delilah Bard. Four months since Prince Rhy was wounded, and since the nefarious Dane twins of White London fell, and four months since the stone was cast with Holland’s dying body through the rift–back into Black London.

Now, restless after having given up his smuggling habit, Kell is visited by dreams of ominous magical events, waking only to think of Lila, who disappeared from the docks as she always meant to do. As Red London finalizes preparations for the Element Games–an extravagant international competition of magic meant to entertain and keep healthy the ties between neighboring countries–a certain pirate ship draws closer, carrying old friends back into port.

And while Red London is caught up in the pageantry and thrills of the Games, another London is coming back to life. After all, a shadow that was gone in the night will reappear in the morning. But the balance of magic is ever perilous, and for one city to flourish, another London must fall.

This series is the next one in my TBR line up and I can’t wait to start them! I almost want to push the two books I need to read aside and just start with ADSOM!

The Goodreads Book Tag

I saw this book tag on @bookslover95 blog (you can click on the link to see her answers and check out her blog)! I figured since I use Goodreads basically on the daily, this would be a good one for me to do! I don’t really like to tag people, but if you want to do this one feel free! Just let me know so that I can check out your answers!

What was the last book you marked as ‘read’?

thequeenofbrightandshinythings

This was a decent book on first love and over coming obstacles that may come across your path. Still working on my review of it, but it’ll be up soon!

What are you ‘currently reading’?

wintersong

This book has been on TBR shelf for awhile, and since I just got approve to read the sequel thought I should probably read this first. =p

What was the last book you marked as ‘to read’?

The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy by Mackenzi Lee. It doesn’t come out until sometime in October, so it doesn’t have a cover yet.

What book do you plan to read next?

I guess technically Gemina isn’t a book I plan on reading next since I am about a quarter of the way through. But it is a book that I plan on picking back up soon!

Do you use the star rating system?

I do.  How else am I supposed to remember if I liked a book or not? lol

Are you doing a reading challenge?

My goal this year is to read 52 books (not including baby S books, because they are short and don’t count). Last year my goal was 100 which got quickly changed to 75, and then I ended up finishing with only 55 books.

Do you have a wishlist?

I do, but not on Goodreads. I have a list on my phone and on Amazon. That way if I’m out and about I can quickly check my list to see which ones I need.

What book do you plan to buy next?

I just bought a bunch of books for my birthday, so I am good on that front. I might by the third HP illustrated edition if it ever goes back on sale, or if I get a really good coupon.

Do you have any favorite quotes?

“So many books, so little time” Frank Zappa

Who are your favorite authors?

There are just so many so I will try to narrow it down to a short list:

  • Leigh Bardugo
  • JK Rowling
  • Sarah J Maas
  • Sarah Dessen
  • Kelley Armstrong

Have you joined any groups?

A few, but I’m not active at all in them. I do better in the Facebook groups that I have joined.

Do you think Goodreads could do better?

Being able to do half stars would be nice. I hate having to round up or down
