Book Blogger Hop: Week of Jan 26th-Feb 1st

Book Blogger Hop

This weekly hop is hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer, featuring a question about books each week. The purpose is to bring bookish bloggers together, basically. To participate, write a post about the question for that week and add your link.

This weeks question:  Jan 26th – February 1st – Do you ever go back to older posts and change things? (submitted by Elizabeth @ Silver’s Reviews)

I only do this if I notice I made a grammatical error. If my opinions change, then I’ll do an update at the bottom and if it’s a book review probably write a whole new post and link it back to the original.

What do you do?

Goodreads Monday (1/22/2018)

Goodreads Monday is a meme hosted by Lauren @Page Turner,  and the idea is to post a book that’s on your TBR pile and show it off. This is a great way to show off books I have not yet managed to read!

This week I have chosen:

A Gathering of Shadows Final

Title:  A Gathering of Shadows (Shades of Magic #2)

Author: V.E. Schwab

Published: February 23rd 2016 by Tor Teen

Goodreads Summary:

It has been four months since a mysterious obsidian stone fell into Kell’s possession. Four months since his path crossed with Delilah Bard. Four months since Prince Rhy was wounded, and since the nefarious Dane twins of White London fell, and four months since the stone was cast with Holland’s dying body through the rift–back into Black London.

Now, restless after having given up his smuggling habit, Kell is visited by dreams of ominous magical events, waking only to think of Lila, who disappeared from the docks as she always meant to do. As Red London finalizes preparations for the Element Games–an extravagant international competition of magic meant to entertain and keep healthy the ties between neighboring countries–a certain pirate ship draws closer, carrying old friends back into port.

And while Red London is caught up in the pageantry and thrills of the Games, another London is coming back to life. After all, a shadow that was gone in the night will reappear in the morning. But the balance of magic is ever perilous, and for one city to flourish, another London must fall.

This series is the next one in my TBR line up and I can’t wait to start them! I almost want to push the two books I need to read aside and just start with ADSOM!

What is on your TBR shelf this week?

Book Blogger Hop: Week of Jan 19th-25th

Book Blogger Hop

This weekly hop is hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer, featuring a question about books each week. The purpose is to bring bookish bloggers together, basically. To participate, write a post about the question for that week and add your link.

This weeks question: Jan 19th-25th – When reading a mass paperback book, many people fold the cover back, as if they were reading a magazine. Doing this will eventually create creases in the spine. How do you feel about this common bookish habit? (submitted by Maria @ A Night’s Dream of Books)

I didn’t know that this was a common bookish habit. I personally don’t fold back any cover regardless of the type of book it is. They all get displayed on my bookcase and I want to keep them as long as possible, especially now that I have a daughter. I hope that she will one day want to read all of these amazing books that I have collected over the years!

Title:  A Darker Shade of Magic (Shades of Magic #1)

Author: V.E. Schwab

Published: February 24th 2015 by Tor Teen

Goodreads Summary:

Kell is one of the last Antari—magicians with a rare, coveted ability to travel between parallel Londons; Red, Grey, White, and, once upon a time, Black.

Kell was raised in Arnes—Red London—and officially serves the Maresh Empire as an ambassador, traveling between the frequent bloody regime changes in White London and the court of George III in the dullest of Londons, the one without any magic left to see.

Unofficially, Kell is a smuggler, servicing people willing to pay for even the smallest glimpses of a world they’ll never see. It’s a defiant hobby with dangerous consequences, which Kell is now seeing firsthand.

After an exchange goes awry, Kell escapes to Grey London and runs into Delilah Bard, a cut-purse with lofty aspirations. She first robs him, then saves him from a deadly enemy, and finally forces Kell to spirit her to another world for a proper adventure.

Now perilous magic is afoot, and treachery lurks at every turn. To save all of the worlds, they’ll first need to stay alive.

I am sooo excited to start reading this series! I got my copy in the mail last Friday, and as soon as I finish the two books I need to read this is going to the top of my TBR pile!!!

The Goodreads Book Tag

I saw this book tag on @bookslover95 blog (you can click on the link to see her answers and check out her blog)! I figured since I use Goodreads basically on the daily, this would be a good one for me to do! I don’t really like to tag people, but if you want to do this one feel free! Just let me know so that I can check out your answers!

What was the last book you marked as ‘read’?

thequeenofbrightandshinythings

This was a decent book on first love and over coming obstacles that may come across your path. Still working on my review of it, but it’ll be up soon!

What are you ‘currently reading’?

wintersong

This book has been on TBR shelf for awhile, and since I just got approve to read the sequel thought I should probably read this first. =p

What was the last book you marked as ‘to read’?

The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy by Mackenzi Lee. It doesn’t come out until sometime in October, so it doesn’t have a cover yet.

What book do you plan to read next?

I guess technically Gemina isn’t a book I plan on reading next since I am about a quarter of the way through. But it is a book that I plan on picking back up soon!

Do you use the star rating system?

I do.  How else am I supposed to remember if I liked a book or not? lol

Are you doing a reading challenge?

My goal this year is to read 52 books (not including baby S books, because they are short and don’t count). Last year my goal was 100 which got quickly changed to 75, and then I ended up finishing with only 55 books.

Do you have a wishlist?

I do, but not on Goodreads. I have a list on my phone and on Amazon. That way if I’m out and about I can quickly check my list to see which ones I need.

What book do you plan to buy next?

I just bought a bunch of books for my birthday, so I am good on that front. I might by the third HP illustrated edition if it ever goes back on sale, or if I get a really good coupon.

Do you have any favorite quotes?

“So many books, so little time” Frank Zappa

Who are your favorite authors?

There are just so many so I will try to narrow it down to a short list:

  • Leigh Bardugo
  • JK Rowling
  • Sarah J Maas
  • Sarah Dessen
  • Kelley Armstrong

Have you joined any groups?

A few, but I’m not active at all in them. I do better in the Facebook groups that I have joined.

Do you think Goodreads could do better?

Being able to do half stars would be nice. I hate having to round up or down

Book Blogger Hop: Week of Jan 12th-18th

Book Blogger Hop

This weekly hop is hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer, featuring a question about books each week. The purpose is to bring bookish bloggers together, basically. To participate, write a post about the question for that week and add your link.

This weeks question: Jan 12th-18th – What upcoming titles are looking forward to reading in 2018?

There are a lot of titles coming out this year that I am looking forward to! It’s going to be so hard to narrow that down, but I’ll list the top 5 books I am looking forward to!

1. legendary

This is the sequel to Stephanie Garber’s Caraval. I’m very happy that this will only be a duology, because I am a little worn out of series that last forever! This one focus’ more on Donatella, and her turn at trying to win Caraval.

Expected Publication: May 29th

2. obsidioI am so excited for the last book in this series to come out!!! I loved, loved, loved the first one (and I am about a quarter of the way through the second one). Obsidio centers around Asha and Rhys, and their fight after the initial attack on Kerenza.

Expected Publication: March 13th

3. myplanejaneMy Lady Jane was so unexpected, that I enjoyed every minute of it! I can’t see what the authors do to Jane Eyre’s story!

Expected Publication: June 26th

4. catwomanSarah J Maas. Enough said.

Expected Publication: August 7th

5. The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy by Mackenzi Lee

There isn’t much about this one yet (not even a cover picture yet). This one will be about Felicity and include pirate queens and sea monsters!

Expected Publication: October 2nd

Waiting on Wednesday (1/10/2018)

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by  Jill from Breaking The Spine that shows the upcoming books that many of us are anticipating! This week, I’m waiting for…

 wiresandnerve2

Title:  Wires and Nerve (Volume 2 Gone Rogue)

Author: Marissa Meyer

Expected Publication: January 30th 2018

Publisher:  Feiwel Friends

Goodreads Summary:

Iko – an audacious android and best friend to the Lunar Queen Cinder – has been tasked with hunting down Alpha Lysander Steele, the leader of a rogue band of bioengineered wolf-soldiers who threaten to undo the tenuous peace agreement between Earth and Luna. Unless Cinder can reverse the mutations that were forced on them years before, Steele and his soldiers plan to satisfy their monstrous appetites with a massacre of the innocent people of Earth.

And to show he’s serious, Steele is taking hostages.

Cinder and Kai, Scarlet and Wolf, Cress and Thorne, and Winter and Jacin all feature in this epic new battle. But it is Iko who must face her deepest fears when she uncovers the truth about her own unusual programming.

I had really high hopes for the first one last year when it came out, because I mean it’s a graphic novel set in The Lunar Chronicles universe!!! When I finished it, I was left with a feeling of disappointment. Mainly because the writing style and level was completely different from the original books.

So with the second book, I am going to go in with no expectations and hope that I like it better than the first one!

What are you waiting for this week?

Title:  The Last Magician

Author: Lisa Maxwell

Published: July 18th 2017 by Simon Pulse

Goodreads Summary:

Stop the Magician. Steal the book. Save the future.

In modern-day New York, magic is all but extinct. The remaining few who have an affinity for magic—the Mageus—live in the shadows, hiding who they are. Any Mageus who enters Manhattan becomes trapped by the Brink, a dark energy barrier that confines them to the island. Crossing it means losing their power—and often their lives.

Esta is a talented thief, and she’s been raised to steal magical artifacts from the sinister Order that created the Brink. With her innate ability to manipulate time, Esta can pilfer from the past, collecting these artifacts before the Order even realizes she’s there. And all of Esta’s training has been for one final job: traveling back to 1902 to steal an ancient book containing the secrets of the Order—and the Brink—before the Magician can destroy it and doom the Mageus to a hopeless future.

But Old New York is a dangerous world ruled by ruthless gangs and secret societies, a world where the very air crackles with magic. Nothing is as it seems, including the Magician himself. And for Esta to save her future, she may have to betray everyone in the past.

Hello it’s the second Monday of January and it’s my birthday!!!!!! I just bought this book with all the Christmas B&N gift cards I received, and I finally can’t wait to read it!

Have you read it? What are your thoughts?

The Sunshine Blogger Award

Sunshine Blogger Award.png

I was tagged by Amanda from A Darker Shade of Hope for The Sunshine Blogger Award! You should definitely go check out her blog when you have a chance! Her own post for this award can be found here so head on over!

I thought it was fitting that an Amanda tagged me for this award today, because it’s my baby sister Amanda’s 18th birthday!!!

WHAT IS THE SUNSHINE BLOGGER AWARD?

The Sunshine Blogger Award is given to those who are creative, positive and inspiring while spreading sunshine to the blogging community.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

  • Thank the person(s) who nominated you in a blog post and link back to their blog.
  • Answer the 11 questions sent by the person who nominated you.
  • Nominate 11 new blogs to receive the award and write them 11 new questions.
  • List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo on your post and/or on your blog.

So here we go with Amanda’s set of questions, and I really love the variety in them!

1. What’s the story or meaning behind your blog name?

Hmm… Well my name is Samantha, so that’s where the Sam comes in….and I don’t remember how I came up with Little Corner. Maybe because I am a short person and I really loved that song from Brandy’s Cinderella …”in my own little corner, in my own little….”

2. What is your reading goal for 2018?

52. I would like to read at least one book a week!

3. What is your favourite song of all time?

Hey There Delilah by the Plain White T’s

4. Who is your favourite cartoon character of all time?

Simba from The Lion King, hands down.

5. If any book could be turned into a movie, and you get to play any character you wish, who would it be?

Let’s go with the Throne of Glass series, so that I can be a BA assassin!

6. Which book would you like to introduce to your child when they are young? Why?

Harry Potter. It was my favorite in 5th grade, and I would love to introduce it to my child in the hopes that it will instill a love for reading like it did for me.

7. What is your favourite candle scent or favourite bookish candle?

I don’t really have a favorite candle scent or bookish candle. But, I do like anything cookie scented or vanilla.

8. Which character would you like to have as a sibling and why?

Scarlett Dragna from Caraval by Stephanie Garber. She is so loyal to her sister, and went to great lengths to try to save her and in the process found her independence. I don’t know if any of my sisters would go to such great lengths to try to find me during a party that seemed to never end! They would get distracted way too easily. LOL

9. What is one thing about your country you wish more people knew about?

That not all of us are stuck up Americans.

10. Kiss, kill or marry: Iron Man, Thor, Captain America.

Kiss- Captain America

Kill- Iron Man

Marry- Thor

(man this was a tough one, except who to marry, that one was the easiest =p)

11. Top 5 favourite movies?

  1. The Lion King
  2. Pitch Perfect
  3. Moana
  4. Miss Congeniality
  5. Can I just put any Disney movie ever? That will be the easiest.

MY QUESTIONS:

  1. What book(s) are you anxiously waiting for this year?
  2. Do you have any blog resolutions? If so, what are they?
  3. Favorite book to movie adaptation?
  4. What movie do you think is actually better than the book?
  5. Other than reading, what are your favorite hobbies?
  6. Top 5 favorite books/series?
  7. Favorite book and genre?
  8. Least favorite genre and why?
  9. Other than book reviews, what other types of blog posts do you like to do?
  10. Are you left or right handed? (Lefties unite!)
  11. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

I’D LIKE TO TAG

Lucas @BooksandSmizmars

Sophie @BlameChocolate

Saii @LiteraryHues

Lauren @PageTurners

It’s alright if you don’t want to do the tag, but I’d love to read your answers if you do! (: I really suck at tagging people, so if you would like to do this tag then I nominate you! Just let me know if you do it so that I can read your answers!!

Book Blogger Hop: Week of 12/29-1/4

Book Blogger Hop

This weekly hop is hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer, featuring a question about books each week. The purpose is to bring bookish bloggers together, basically. To participate, write a post about the question for that week and add your link.

This weeks question: Dec 29th – January 4th – What character or characters would you not mind sharing a New Year’s kiss with? (submitted by Kitty @ Vicarious Bookworm)

This is a very hard question. There are just so many on my list of literary boyfriends, that I would not mind what so ever to share a midnight kiss with. Hmm….let’s go with August Flynn from the Monsters of Verity series by Victoria Schwab, mainly because I just bought Our Dark Duet and I can’t wait to read it!

Who is your midnight kiss with?
